This famous expression means that we cannot always be in action. Moreover, it means that sometimes it is wiser to stay calm and to observe, inside and out, rather than to precipitate action, any action. Especially when we consider how easy it is to indulge in acting out, as so many examples are staring us right in the face in these times.
However, we also have to consider that standing back and continuing observing has not by itself provided us with the beginning of a solution. Sooner or later – but not always, when considering our finitude – we have to make choices and act. Not to do so is already a (unconscious) choice, the one of forever remaining in the black hole of our existence, which we otherwise pretend wanting to avoid.
Making choices in consciousness and independence, is that not the main attribute of a human being ? And is it possible without taking action ?
